John is a Registered Psychologist with AHPRA who holds a Bachelor of Arts Psychology (Honours) degree and Masters (MSc.) in Psychological Science (Clinical) from the University of Limerick. John is a member of our Sydney Thrive Psychology team. Originally from Ireland, John completed a one-year internship in the Irish health service working across multiple settings from adult, child and adolescent, disability and older adult clients with mental health conditions. It was in this time John gained experience of using Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) in both individual and group intervention programs for adults. Further to that, John is big on finding what is unique to every individual using a warm person-centred therapeutic approach.

John has provided interventions to clients using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Psychoeducation and Motivational Interviewing along with a growing interest in using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). John has joined the Thrive psychology team after completing two years of working in perinatal mental health with mothers with a mental health condition. John has assisted clients in managing issues such as depression, anxiety related issues, post-partum depression and anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, stress management, communication skills, grief and loss. He also is a keen lover of sports, exercise and psychological assessments.
